OPEC+ is once again accelerating production, and a price war is quietly brewing.
OPEC representatives stated that major countries led by Saudi Arabia and Russia have agreed to increase production by 411,000 barrels per day next month. This is the second consecutive month the alliance has accelerated the pace of supply recovery since unexpectedly large production increases in May. The organization's leaders are attempting to punish member countries that violate quotas and overproduce in a strategic shift. Market analysts believe this move could signal a potential price war brewing. According to OPEC+ representatives, Saudi Arabia has reached a breaking point with countries like Kazakhstan and Iraq that have long been overproducing. Jorge Leon, an analyst at Rystad Energy who previously worked at the OPEC Secretariat, said, "OPEC+ has just dropped a bombshell on the oil market. Saudi Arabia's move is both to punish unruly members and to appease Trump's desire for lower oil prices."
