On September 19th local time, US President Trump posted on social media that he had ordered the US military to strike a "drug smuggling ship" in international waters, resulting in the deaths of 3 male suspects on board. Trump stated that the US military fired at the ship transporting illegal drugs in international waters within the responsibility area of the US Southern Command. The ship belonged to a "terrorist organization" and was sailing along a "smuggling route". On September 15th, President Trump said that he had ordered the US military to attack a "drug smuggling ship" reportedly from Venezuela in international waters, resulting in the deaths of 3 men on board. Recently, the US has deployed several warships in the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela under the pretext of "combating Latin American drug trafficking groups", leading to continued tensions between the two countries. In response to President Trump's claims of attacking three drug smuggling ships, Venezuela's Minister of Interior, Reverol, stated that there is no evidence to prove that the ships attacked by the US contained drugs.
