There were previous reports that Samsung plans to supply image sensors (CIS) for Apple's iPhone 18 series in 2027 to challenge Sony's long-term monopoly in this area. However, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo pointed out last Sunday that there have been changes in the plan. The sensor, originally expected to start production in 2026, may now be delayed to 2027. He did not disclose the reason for the delay. Analysts suggest that although Samsung has accumulated years of experience in supplying components like screens, DRAM, and NAND, it still needs to prove its technological prowess to Apple in the field of camera image sensors. In addition, Kuo mentioned that Samsung's supply of ultra-wide-angle image sensors is expected to be first introduced in mid-range iPhone models.
