Italian Deputy Prime Minister says banks should not be subjected to windfall tax.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister stated that he is against imposing windfall taxes on banks. This issue has become a point of contention within the government led by Prime Minister Meloni. "Banks should pay taxes and make contributions, but they should not be raided or blamed," Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani said on Sunday. He also added that the government should not interfere in transactions and mergers between banks. Furthermore, Tajani on Sunday also called for the European Central Bank to support the Eurozone economy by buying sovereign bonds, given the current competitiveness of the US dollar.
