Aviation consulting firm Cirium predicts that the A320 series will soon surpass its American competitors to become the commercial aircraft with the highest number of deliveries in history. Data shows that as of early August, Airbus has closed the gap to just 20 aircraft, with a lifetime delivery total of 12,155 A320 series aircraft. This gap is likely to disappear next month. After nearly four decades of catching up, Airbus has finally caught up with Boeing. The success of the A320 also reflects the journey of this European aircraft manufacturer from industry newcomer to strong competitor. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury stated that Airbus is considering launching a successor to the A320 at the end of this decade, which is expected to enter service in the mid-2030s.
