On August 15th, there was a new development at the Nantong new airport. According to related information, the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong New Airport Construction Investment Company was officially registered on August 15th, jointly established by Shanghai Airport Co., Ltd. and Nantong Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd., with the former holding 51% of shares and the latter holding 49%. At the same time, the registration information shows that the company's registered capital is 1 billion yuan, the scope of operation includes civil airport operation, public air transport, construction engineering construction, civil aviation maintenance, general aviation services, etc. The Nantong new airport has always been dubbed as the "third airport of Shanghai" by the outside world, because it bears the important task of serving the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and will in the future undertake some overflow passenger sources from Shanghai and surrounding areas. In September 2020, the Civil Aviation Administration of China approved the site selection project for the Nantong new airport, with Erjia in Tongzhou District of Nantong as the first choice site, which is close to both Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong airports, about 100 kilometers away in a straight line. According to the related plans, the Nantong new airport will have two long-distance runways and a terminal building with a capacity to handle 40 million passengers annually, with two runways and a satellite hall reserved for future expansion. The designed annual passenger throughput capacity will reach 40 million in the near term and 80 million in the long term, operating at level 4F.
