Journalists learned from the press conference on the prevention and control of the Zika virus epidemic held in Foshan, Guangdong Province on August 9th that as of August 8th, the daily number of new cases in the city had been below 200 for five consecutive days, and the epidemic prevention and control work had achieved preliminary results. Deputy Mayor of Foshan City, Wen Xi, said that the city is currently focusing on patient treatment, mosquito eradication, environmental improvement, and other work, striving to achieve early detection, early discovery, early diagnosis, and early treatment of patients. At present, there have been no severe or fatal cases, with over 90% of cases already recovered. In addition, by taking rapid measures to address new outbreak points, conducting targeted cleaning of breeding grounds, clearing stagnant water, and killing adult mosquitoes, and carrying out multiple rounds of containment and disinfection in key villages and townships with ongoing high case counts, since July 23rd, the overall mosquito density in Foshan has been below the safe value for 17 consecutive days.
