The President of Ukraine signs a decree sanctioning Russian nuclear energy companies and other related entities.

On August 9th local time, Ukrainian President Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on multiple individuals and legal entities related to the Russian state atomic energy corporation and Russian energy-related businesses. The sanctions list includes 18 individuals and 17 legal entities, who are involved in actions such as trying to merge the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant into the Russian electricity grid. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is located in southern Ukraine and is one of the largest nuclear power plants in Europe. It was soon after controlled by Russia in 2022 after the Russia-Ukraine conflict erupted. Since then, both Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of launching attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
