The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued a warning on the risk of flooding in farmland on August 7th.
It is expected that from the night of August 7th to the 9th, there will be moderate to heavy rain in most of North China, Huang-Huai, central and northern Jianghan, northern Jianghuai and other areas. Some areas may experience heavy rain, and isolated areas may experience severe rainstorms. Some farmland may face sudden shifts between drought and waterlogging. In some areas of southern Henan, northern Hubei, northwestern Shandong, southeastern Hebei, northern Jianglao, and northern Anhui, there is a higher risk of farmland flooding. The risk of farmland flooding is high in the southwestern part of Zhumadian, southern part of Nanyang, northwestern part of Xinyang, northern part of Xiangyang in Hubei, and northwestern part of Suizhou. Farmland waterlogging can easily lead to reduced root activity in crops, slow growth, lodging of tall crops, and high field humidity can also trigger the spread of diseases and pests. It is recommended that the above-mentioned areas clean ditches and canals in farmland, and timely remove accumulated water after rainfall, provide proper fertilization, strengthen monitoring and control of diseases, pests, and weeds, and promote the recovery of crops in flooded farmlands.
