Kieran Tompkins, senior macroeconomic and commodities economist at Capital Economics, stated in a report that he expects OPEC+ to take a brief break before lifting the latest round of voluntary production cuts, otherwise they will face an oversupplied oil market. He added that Capital Economics' base forecast is for OPEC+ to begin increasing production again in the second quarter of 2026, in line with the trend of declining Brent crude prices over the next two years. He noted that since switching to a more aggressive stance in April, OPEC has rapidly increased production, so it was not surprising to market observers that the organization decided to increase production in September at the same rapid pace this weekend.
