Three chemical companies in the United States will pay more than $800 million to compensate for environmental pollution in New Jersey.

On August 4th local time, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platten announced that the state had reached an environmental settlement agreement with three American chemical companies, Chemours, DuPont, and Corteva. These three companies have agreed to pay New Jersey $875 million to settle claims related to contamination from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. The agreement also requires the companies to fund the cleanup of four pollution sites and establish a remediation fund of up to $12 billion and a reserve of $4.75 billion to guard against future bankruptcy or default.
