Vietnam's stock market surged to a new record high on Friday, boosted by the return of foreign capital and optimistic expectations of the US-Vietnam trade agreement. The benchmark index of the Vietnamese stock market rose by 0.5% to 1529.14 points, surpassing its previous closing record set in January 2022. The Vietnamese stock market has been steadily rising since early July, when US President Trump announced a trade agreement with Vietnam, setting tariffs at 20%, much lower than the 46% announced in early April. Vietnam has stated that negotiators are still discussing the details of the agreement. Data shows that foreign investors have net bought approximately $413.7 million worth of Vietnamese stocks this month. Global investors are expected to further increase their allocation to Vietnamese stocks.
