According to a report from Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao website quoted by China Reference News on July 16, American chip company Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced its plans to resume exporting its MI308 chip to China after receiving approval in the United States. This decision is similar to the one made earlier regarding a chip from Nvidia. An AMD spokesperson reportedly stated on July 15 that the US Department of Commerce informed the company that the license application for its MI308 product will enter the review process. The MI308 chip is an AI accelerator designed specifically for the Chinese market by AMD. The report mentioned that allowing these products to return to China represents a reversal for the Trump administration. In previous weeks, the Trump administration had been adamant about not discussing policies to restrict chip sales to China. However, relations between the two countries have thawed in recent weeks, with Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang meeting with President Trump before his visit to China.
