The global new ship market has entered an adjustment period. According to the latest report from consulting firm Clarkson, in May of this year, the global new ship order volume was 71 ships and 1.66 million CGT, a year-on-year decrease of 55% and a month-on-month decrease of 64% according to CGT. Industry insiders believe that the adjustment of the new ship market is mainly due to geopolitical risks disturbance and the current shipbuilding prices at historical highs. In addition, the high concentration of orders in the past few years has led to a high base, and the decline since the beginning of this year is considered a normal phenomenon. Meanwhile, the market for green ships is emerging, driving the maritime industry to accelerate its green transformation. Currently, less than 10% of the global fleet is green, and Clarkson predicts that by 2030, over 20% of ships in the global fleet will be powered by alternative fuels.
