On Friday local time, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced that after a recent substantial downsizing, the agency is seeking to keep its budget unchanged next year and further reduce its staff size. The agency is requesting $2.15 billion in funding for the 2026 fiscal year, which is consistent with the amount currently approved by lawmakers. The budget request document released on Friday on the SEC's official website also shows that the agency plans to reduce the total number of full-time employees from the 4,548 approved by Congress this year to 4,101, a reduction of 9.8%.
