Japanese media: Japan is preparing its trump card to deal with the third round of Japan-US tariff negotiations.
After two consecutive rounds of trade negotiations between Japan and the United States failed to reach a consensus, the Nikkei Asian Review reported on the 17th that Japanese officials responsible for the negotiations have signaled a shift in strategy: from initially hoping for the complete elimination of tariffs by the U.S. to being willing to accept a reduction in tariffs by the U.S. The Nikkei Asian Review also reported that the governments of Japan and the United States plan to hold a third round of tariff negotiations after the G7 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Canada this week. Japan's chief trade negotiator and Minister of Economic Revitalization, Ryosei Akazawa, will be visiting the U.S. again. The Japanese side is preparing their negotiation cards. The Nikkei Asian Review reported that the Japanese government held a special working group meeting on U.S. tariff measures at the Prime Minister's official residence on the 15th in preparation for the third round of Japan-U.S. tariff negotiations.
