According to a report by Agence France-Presse on May 17th, Serbian President Vucic told supporters at a rally on the 17th that he was "fed up" with the calls for early elections. The report stated that last November, the collapse of the roof at the train station in Novi Sad, northern Serbia, resulted in 16 deaths and sparked protests. It was reported that on the 17th, Vucic spoke to his supporters in the southeastern city of Nis, telling protesters, "Your demands are enough, I've had enough, I'm not interested." He added, "The story is over." This firm tone was in response to protesters demanding early parliamentary elections since May 5th. Vucic commented on the 17th that the elections will be held after the "competent authorities make a decision," and added that the ruling coalition will win with a better result than in the parliamentary elections scheduled for December 2023. Furthermore, like he has been doing for the past few months, Vucic reaffirmed on the 17th his allegations that Serbia is facing an "attempted color revolution" orchestrated by foreign forces. He claimed that "billions of euros are being invested in actions to destroy Serbia." According to Serbian media reports, thousands of people participated in the supporters' rally.
