The US Treasury Secretary compared the Qatar special plane with the Statue of Liberty as a gift.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Berente downplayed the controversy surrounding Qatar's possible gift of a luxury jet to the Trump administration. In an interview today, he compared this to other gifts the U.S. has received in the past, such as the Statue of Liberty or the "Resolute Desk" in the Oval Office. When asked by reporters if this gift could be seen as a "favor to be repaid in the future," Berente said that Qatar may not necessarily need anything in return from the U.S. "France gave us the Statue of Liberty, and the UK gave us the Resolute Desk. I'm not sure they asked for anything in return beforehand," he said on the program.
