The California government has proposed to relax regulations on self-driving cars. The news boosted Tesla's stock by 9.8% on Friday. The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) published the proposed revisions to restrictions on self-driving cars on the road on its website on Friday. The agency has set a 45-day public response period, which will end on June 9. After that, the DMV will hold a public hearing before deciding on the details of the regulation changes, which include terms for obtaining testing permits and including trucks in the eligible testing category. Market analysts believe that the new policy will accelerate the development of self-driving technology for Alphabet's self-driving branch Waymo, Tesla, Amazon's Zoox, and the Chinese self-driving car company WeRide. Tesla has not yet obtained approval from California authorities to conduct self-driving tests in the state, while Waymo, Zoox, and WeRide have already received higher-level testing permits. Waymo is already conducting service testing in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
