California relaxes regulations on self-driving vehicles.
The California government has proposed loosening regulations on autonomous vehicles. The news stimulated Tesla, which closed up 9.8% on Friday. The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced on its website on Friday that it is proposing revisions to restrictions on the operation of autonomous vehicles on roads. The authorities have set a 45-day public response period, with the consultation period ending on June 9. Following this, the DMV will hold a public hearing before deciding on the details of the law amendment. The revised regulations include provisions for obtaining test permits and adding trucks to the scope of testing. Market analysts believe that the new policy will accelerate the research and development of autonomous driving technology for companies such as Alphabet's self-driving division Waymo, Tesla, Amazon's Zoox, and Chinese autonomous vehicle company WeRide. Tesla has still not received approval from California authorities to conduct autonomous driving tests in the state. Waymo, Zoox, and WeRide have already obtained higher-level testing permits from the authorities. Waymo is currently conducting service tests in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
