The Trump administration is once again pushing for the transfer of functions of the Department of Education.
On June 16th local time, CCTV reporters learned that the Trump administration announced it will transfer some of the core functions of the Department of Education to other federal agencies in order to advance the plan to shut down the Department of Education. It is reported that the office responsible for special education and rehabilitation services at the Department of Education will be transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services, while the investigation and enforcement work of the Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Education will be transferred to the Department of Justice. In addition, the Department of Education had previously transferred some K-12 education, higher education, and vocational education programs to the Department of Labor through interagency agreements, and initiated the process of transferring the $1.7 trillion federal student loan portfolio to the Department of the Treasury.
