According to reports, at a summit of global technology leaders and national leaders held this week in New Delhi, India will showcase its development of affordable AI tools to address local issues and present this as a development path for other middle-income countries. Senior official of the Indian Ministry of Electronics, S. Krishnan, stated in January: "What we are trying to do as a country... is to democratize technology." He also said, "Hosting this in the Global South is significant in itself." Some top AI figures, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic's Dario Amodei, are expected to attend when Indian Prime Minister Modi opens the summit on Thursday.
