Edan Instruments, Inc. (300206.SZ) announced that on March 14, 2024, the company signed a "Main Licensing, Development, and Commercialization Agreement" with Global Health Labs, Inc ("GH Labs") in Bellevue, Washington, USA, for an artificial intelligence ultrasound project. Following the launch of the project, the company and GH Labs jointly completed demand research, project planning, lightweight integration and integration of artificial intelligence models, and software function development for an AI-driven affordable handheld ultrasound device (cooperative product). The project is currently in the stage of clinical data collection and performance optimization, meeting the expectations of both parties.
It is reported that based on the interim results of the current project and the expectations of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ("Gates Foundation") for the project, in order to further support the company in developing new ultrasound solutions to help midwives screen pregnant and postpartum women for obstetric ultrasound, in order to identify and manage pregnancy risks in low- and middle-income countries, the company signed a grant agreement with the Gates Foundation on November 18, 2024. The Gates Foundation will provide a total grant of $2.65 million to the company to support clinical testing, registration applications, and early market introduction of the cooperative product.
The announcement states that GH Labs is a non-profit company fully funded by Gates Ventures (Bill Gates' private office), which promotes and implements the global health priorities of the Gates Foundation through technological innovation and product development.
