On September 23, local time, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau in New York. Li Keqiang stated that recently, China and Canada have been promoting the improvement and development of bilateral relations in a practical and constructive manner, which has been widely welcomed by both countries. China is willing to work with Canada on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a strategic partnership, in a responsible manner towards the people of both countries and the China-Canada relationship, to take more positive and pragmatic actions, and to further improve Sino-Canadian relations, steadily entering a healthy, stable, and sustainable development track. It is hoped that Canada will establish the correct understanding of China, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and lay a political foundation for the development of bilateral relations and cooperation. Li Keqiang pointed out that China supports the strengthening of exchanges between government departments, political parties, legislative bodies, local governments, civil society, youth and other sectors of the two countries, and through dialogue and communication, gradually enhance mutual understanding and trust. China has long been Canada's second largest trading partner, and bilateral trade has grown rapidly this year. China is willing to work with Canada to maintain and develop this positive momentum, resolve economic and trade concerns through dialogue and consultation, deepen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in energy, green, tourism and other areas, and better benefit the people of both countries. It is hoped that Canada will provide a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies investing in Canada. At present, the international situation is undergoing many new changes, unilateralism and protectionism are rampant, various trade restrictive measures are increasing, and the international community should strengthen unity and work together to address risks and challenges. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Canada, jointly promote economic globalization and free trade, support the reform and development of the World Trade Organization, promote the construction of an open world economy, and better safeguard the common interests of the international community.
