Netanyahu admits Israel's economy is isolated, opposition criticizes him for reaping what he sows.
On the afternoon of the 15th local time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted at a meeting at the Ministry of Finance that Israel is currently facing an increasingly serious "economically isolated state." He stated that as the conflict in the Gaza Strip continues, Israel may have to move towards a "self-sufficient economy" and therefore must be more self-reliant. He also said that Israel's military industry development "may have already been" hindered and further strengthening of weapons research and production capabilities is needed. He accused European countries of turning against Israel due to large-scale immigration and canceling arms sales agreements with Israel, but he emphasized his belief that Israel can overcome its isolation. Israeli opposition leader Lapid criticized after the meeting that Israel's economic isolation is a result of Netanyahu and his government's "wrong and failed" policies.
