The public security and internet security department lawfully investigated and dealt with the case of Dior company failing to fulfill its obligation to protect personal information according to law.
According to the National Network Security Bulletin Center, in May of this year, multiple media outlets reported a data breach incident involving the French fashion consumer brand Dior. Users in mainland China also received official warning messages from Dior one after another. In response, the public security network security department organized an administrative investigation into Dior company in accordance with the law. It was found that Dior company had three illegal facts: first, it did not conduct a data export security assessment, establish a personal information export standard contract or pass a personal information protection certification, and illegally transferred user personal information to the Dior headquarters in France. Second, before providing user personal information to the Dior headquarters in France, it did not fully inform the users of the processing methods of the overseas recipients of their personal information, and did not obtain the users' "informed consent". Third, it did not take security measures such as encryption and de-identification for the collected personal information. The local public security organs, in accordance with the "Personal Information Protection Law", imposed administrative penalties on Dior company. Security reminder: Citizens' personal information is protected by law. Personal information handlers should take this case as a lesson and abide by the principles of legality, fairness, necessity, and good faith, implement relevant provisions of the "Personal Information Protection Law" regarding the handling and cross-border provision of personal information, regulate the entire lifecycle activities of collecting, storing, using, processing, transmitting, providing, publishing, deleting personal information, and effectively protect the security of users' personal information.
