This by-election for the Election Committee sectoral groups was the first time using the new electronic voting system, which went smoothly. Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam issued a statement on the same day, stating that the Election Committee is composed of 1500 people from 40 sectoral groups, representing a wide range and conforming to the principle of balanced participation. Under the principles of perfecting the electoral system and implementing the "patriot governing Hong Kong" concept, the Election Committee has an important role. Committee members will be able to nominate candidates for the eighth Legislative Council election and vote for 40 Legislative Council members from the Election Committee sectors on December 7th of this year. It is hoped that all Election Committee members will fulfill their duties and contribute to the stability and long-term development of the practice of "one country, two systems."
