American law enforcement officers recently raided a construction site of Hyundai Motor Company in the United States and arrested hundreds of South Korean citizens. The South Korean government expressed concern and urgently discussed countermeasures. According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong convened an emergency meeting on the 6th, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant diplomats stationed overseas. Chung Eui-yong confirmed at the meeting that more than 300 South Koreans had been arrested, stating that South Korea feels "deeply regretful" about the incident and has a "significant sense of responsibility" towards the arrested individuals. He said that on the 4th, South Korea expressed regret and concern over the incident to the U.S. Embassy in South Korea. South Korean President Moon Jae-in has instructed full efforts to be made to quickly resolve the incident, and the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs may immediately dispatch senior officials to the United States.
