Ministry of Water Resources: Speed up the construction of smart dams and improve the comprehensive monitoring and sensing, intelligent analysis and prediction, and forward-looking decision support systems for dams.

On August 27th, the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources held a consultation meeting to strengthen the safety management of reservoirs and promote high-level safety. The meeting believed that it is necessary to fully understand the severe challenges brought by extreme weather, and solidly carry out various tasks of reservoir safety management; to accelerate the construction of smart dams, improve the system of thorough monitoring and sensing, intelligent analysis and prediction, and forward-looking decision support for dams, scientifically formulate and iteratively optimize the scheduling plans for reservoir groups in the basin, implement precise scheduling; to strengthen the scientific and technological support for the safe operation of reservoirs, scientifically determine and review the design flood of reservoirs, accelerate the construction of rainwater monitoring and forecasting systems, strengthen research on the prevention of overtopping and dam breaks of new dam types and earth-rock dams, and systematically improve the ability of reservoirs to respond to floods exceeding standards.
