The final data released by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) on Friday showed that the French economy grew slightly in the second quarter, matching the initial estimate of 0.3% and consistent with forecasts from institutions, indicating that the growth momentum of the second largest economy in the eurozone is strengthening. INSEE said that exports, driven by strong growth in pharmaceutical product exports, modestly rebounded to +0.5% after falling by -1.2% in the previous quarter. As a traditional driver of French economic growth, household consumption rebounded slightly from -0.3% in the previous quarter to 0.0%, as increased spending on food and services offset the sharp decline in energy spending (which was -2.4% in the second quarter and +0.8% in the first quarter).
