The new method is expected to achieve early prevention of type 1 diabetes.
The Karolinska Institute in Sweden has developed a new method in collaboration with two other research institutes, aiming to achieve early detection and prevention of type 1 diabetes before its onset. A press release recently issued by the Karolinska Institute stated that type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. The disease typically progresses gradually, with early biological changes being difficult to capture. Researchers have found in experimental models that frequent collection of small blood samples and analysis using advanced proteomics methods can detect abnormal changes in the body before clinical symptoms appear.
