The South Korean National Assembly passed a labor law named the "Yellow Envelope Bill" on Sunday. The law aims to expand workers' rights. The bill was successfully passed with the support of the ruling Democratic Party, overcoming opposition from the People Power Party. The law amends the Trade Union Act to extend bargaining rights to subcontracted workers and indirectly hired workers. The amendment also prohibits companies from suing striking workers for compensation or asset seizure, a practice the unions say has been used to suppress workers' strike actions. Business lobbying groups have criticized the measure, warning that it could cause chaos in the workplace and encourage collective actions against management decisions, including overseas investments.
