The Turkish government held a groundbreaking ceremony on August 22 in the northeastern city of Ardahan for the important border railway line - Kars-Ardahan-Aralik-Dilucu railway. According to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailolu, said at the groundbreaking ceremony that the railway will strengthen Turkey's geostrategic position and accelerate the achievement of export targets. The report stated that the railway has secured 2.4 billion euros (approximately 2.8 billion US dollars) in financing for a double-track electrified railway design that can transport 5.5 million passengers and 15 million tons of goods annually.
