Gold prices rose 1% on the day of Powell's speech, and the Philadelphia gold and silver index continued to reach new historical highs.
On Friday, the New York spot gold rose by 0.99% to $3371.86 per ounce, completely holding on to the momentum brought by the speech of Federal Reserve Chairman Powell, with a total increase of 1.07% for the week. Before Powell's speech, it had been fluctuating between $3310 and $3358. COMEX gold futures rose by 1.05% to $3417.00 per ounce, with a weekly gain of 1.02%. The Philadelphia Gold and Silver Index closed up by 1.81% at 239.23 points, marking the second consecutive trading day to reach a new record high, with a weekly increase of 3.37%.
