The American intelligence chief orders a ban on sharing information on Russia-Ukraine negotiations with "Five Eyes" allies.
According to a report by CBS News on the 21st, US National Intelligence Director Turse Gabard issued a directive weeks ago prohibiting US intelligence agencies from sharing intelligence on Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations with "Five Eyes" allies. The "Five Eyes" alliance is an intelligence sharing alliance composed of five English-speaking countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Multiple informed US intelligence officials have confirmed to CBS News that the memorandum issuing the directive was dated July 20. The document specifically requires that all intelligence and analysis related to Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations be classified as "prohibited from disclosure," meaning it must not be disclosed to any foreign government or foreign citizens except for information that is already public. At the same time, the distribution of information is limited to within the agencies generating the relevant intelligence. The report notes that the memorandum does not prohibit the US from sharing diplomatic information obtained through channels outside the intelligence system, nor does it limit the sharing of military intelligence unrelated to negotiations.
