The Hong Kong Observatory reported today that a low-pressure area located near Luzon will enter the South China Sea and intensify into a tropical cyclone. It is expected to be within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong by tonight, at which time the Observatory will issue a number one standby signal. This tropical cyclone will traverse the central and northern parts of the South China Sea over the weekend and gradually strengthen, maintaining a distance of about 500 kilometers or more from Hong Kong, moving roughly towards the southern part of Hainan Island and the surrounding sea areas. It is expected that tomorrow Hong Kong will be mainly sunny and hot in the morning, with occasional sudden showers and thunderstorms later on, as well as rough seas. On Sunday, there will be strong winds and occasional heavy rains. Residents are advised to pay attention to the latest weather updates from the Observatory, stay away from the shore, and refrain from any water activities.
