The Defects Investigation Office under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated on August 19th local time that Tesla did not timely submit accident reports as required. As a result, NHTSA will initiate a review to assess the potential reasons for report delays, the extent of the delays, and the mitigation measures Tesla has taken to address these issues. As part of this review, NHTSA will also evaluate whether there are still previous accident reports that have not been submitted, and whether the submitted reports contain all necessary and available data.
