The United States imposes sanctions on Greek shipping companies to increase pressure on Iran.
The United States Department of the Treasury has sanctioned a Greek shipping company accused of assisting in the transportation of Iranian oil, expanding the Trump administration's maximum pressure campaign against Tehran, while also targeting its so-called "shadow fleet." Antonios Margaritis and a series of companies he oversees in Greece and the Marshall Islands have been added to the sanctions list. This action comes weeks after the largest sanctions action by the US Treasury against Iran in seven years, targeting a network controlled by oil tycoon Hossein Shamkhani, whose father is a senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
