After the news broke, the Chilean peso weakened, the benchmark stock index maintained its upward trend, and interest rate swaps edged higher. Marcel was the main point of contact between the Chilean government and investors, and often went to Congress to discuss President Boric's economic proposals. He had previously served as central bank governor and director of the government budget office. His resignation comes as Chile prepares for elections later this year.
