The U.S. Department of Justice will investigate Federal Reserve Governor Powell and urge him to resign.
The Department of Justice plans to investigate Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook, a senior official wrote to Federal Reserve Chairman Powell on Thursday and urged him to remove Cook from the board. The letter came from Department of Justice official Ed Martin, who had led similar investigations into California Senator Adam Schiff and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Martin wrote in the letter that further review is needed in the Cook case. "I urge you to immediately remove Ms. Cook from the board," Martin wrote, "Do it today, don't wait until it's too late! No American believes she should continue to serve in this position under these circumstances." Cook said on Wednesday that she will continue to stay on the Federal Reserve Board after President Trump called for her resignation.
