Tesla's six-seat long-wheelbase Model Y is launched in China, Musk says it may not be released in the U.S.
Tesla CEO Musk said that the new six-seater Model Y model launched in China this week may not be produced in the United States, citing the rise of autonomous driving cars. The Model Y L, manufactured at Tesla's Shanghai factory, was launched in China on Tuesday with a longer wheelbase and three rows of seats, selling for about $47,200. "This variant of Model Y will not start production in the United States until the end of next year," Musk replied to a X user's post, "but considering the emergence of autonomous driving cars in the United States, it may never be produced." Musk did not provide detailed information on how the rise of autonomous driving will affect the demand for six-seat cars. Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
