Chinese, Lao, Burmese and Thai foreign ministers hold an informal meeting.
On August 15, 2025, China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand held an informal meeting of foreign ministers in Anning, Yunnan. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended along with the Foreign Ministers of Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. The foreign ministers of the four countries exchanged views on joint efforts to combat transnational crimes. Wang Yi pointed out that combating transnational crimes is a matter of people's well-being and safety, which is a shared concern of the four countries and requires collective efforts. Since the last meeting, the four countries have closely collaborated, strengthened border control, and achieved significant success in combating transnational crimes. However, the regional security situation remains challenging, and continued coordination is needed. The foreign ministers emphasized the need to: strengthen guiding principles and mechanisms, implement global security initiatives; enhance joint actions and border control to prevent criminals from operating across borders; strengthen capacity building and judicial coordination, improve publicity, education, and law enforcement training; and promote transformation, development, and social governance, coordinate security and development efforts, and continuously improve local economic and social conditions to eradicate the breeding ground for illicit industries.
