On August 14th local time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff reported that the Ukrainian armed forces unmanned aerial vehicle units, along with the Ministry of Defense Intelligence Directorate, jointly conducted a strike on the Russian Volgograd Refinery in the early hours of the same day. The refinery belongs to "Lukoil-Volgograd Refinery" company and primarily supplies fuel products to the Russian military. The Ukrainian military stated that multiple attack drones hit the target, causing a large-scale fire at the refinery. The specific extent of the damage is still being verified.
The Volgograd Refinery is one of the largest fuel production enterprises in southern Russia, processing over 15 million tons of crude oil annually, accounting for 5.6% of Russia's total refining capacity. It produces diesel, gasoline, and aviation fuel, which are crucial for the logistics of the Russian military. Ukraine emphasized that it will continue to weaken Russia's fuel production capacity, targeting its military strength, making Russia pay a price, and halting the war against Ukraine. Russia has not responded to this incident yet.
