Air Canada has stated that negotiations with flight attendants have reached a stalemate and warned of possible strikes.
Air Canada said on Tuesday that labor negotiations with its 10,000 flight attendants have reached an impasse, and warned that if an agreement cannot be reached, the company could potentially cease operations as early as Saturday. The company stated that the union representing the flight attendants recently proposed a "excessive" pay increase and rejected a proposal to enter into binding third-party arbitration. Air Canada, headquartered in Montreal, carries 130,000 passengers daily. "We remain far apart on key issues," said Arielle Meloul-Wechsler, the company's Executive Vice President of Human Resources. "Air Canada is currently exploring all remaining options...to prevent disruptions to operations, or at the very least, eliminate this intolerable uncertainty for our customers."
