Apple responded to the legal threat from Elon Musk, emphasizing that its App Store "adheres to fair principles and does not show favoritism." An Apple spokesperson stated that the platform showcases apps through rankings, algorithmic recommendations, and expert-selected lists, and that "all recommendations follow objective standards." They also stated that their goal is to "provide a safe exploration environment for users while creating a fair competitive opportunity for developers." On August 11th local time, xAI founder Elon Musk accused Apple of "flagrantly violating antitrust laws" on social media, claiming that they show favoritism to OpenAI in the App Store rankings, making it difficult for other AI companies to rank highly. Musk warned that his company xAI will take legal action against Apple immediately, and in another post questioned why Apple refuses to include X or Grok in the "essential apps" recommended section.
