Before the implementation of tariffs, Brazil's export of chicken eggs to the United States surged.
Data compiled by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association shows that the total export volume of Brazilian eggs in July increased by nearly 305% to reach 5259 metric tons. This reflects strong demand for Brazilian eggs from the United States following an outbreak of avian flu in the country. The avian flu in the US led to a decrease in domestic egg supply, price increases, and worsening inflation, prompting the US to import eggs from Brazil. However, on August 6, President Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, including eggs. The Brazilian Animal Protein Association stated that in the first 7 months of 2025, the United States was the main export destination for Brazilian eggs, with an export volume to the US of 18976 tons, an increase of 1419%, and sales totaling nearly $41 million.
