Dried seaweed prices skyrocket, South Korean government plans to restart reserve system.
On the 10th, the South Korean government department announced that due to a significant increase in the price of dried seaweed in the domestic market, the government plans to restart the dried seaweed reserve system to stabilize market prices. If the dried seaweed reserve system is restarted, it will be the first time the South Korean government has implemented the system in nearly 20 years. The South Korean government previously implemented the dried seaweed reserve system from 1979 to 2006. The price of dried seaweed in South Korea has been on the rise since last spring and remains high this year. According to data from the Agricultural and Fisheries Food Distribution Agency in South Korea, as of the 8th, the average retail price for 10 sheets of dried seaweed in the country was 1,347 Korean won, an increase of 41.5% compared to previous years.
