In the speech on monetary policy and the US economy, Bowman expressed her support for three rate cuts this year and said that the recent weak labor market data further strengthened her view. The Federal Reserve's policy-making committee has kept rates unchanged this year, and Bowman had supported this stance until June. However, in July, both she and Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller supported a 25 basis point rate cut. On Saturday, she urged other central bank decision-makers to begin cutting rates at the Fed's next meeting in September. She said that this action will "help prevent further unnecessary deterioration in the labor market conditions, and reduce the likelihood of the committee needing to implement larger policy adjustments if the labor market deteriorates further." Bowman also reiterated her belief that tariff-driven price increases are unlikely to sustainably push up inflation. She was appointed as a Federal Reserve Governor by then-President Trump in 2018.
