Microsoft poaches AI talents from Google DeepMind, promising less bureaucratic style.

Microsoft has hired one of the founders of DeepMind, a subsidiary of Google, Mustafa Suleyman, to help them catch up in the artificial intelligence competition. Suleyman is now aggressively poaching top talent from his former employer. According to sources, Suleyman is following the strategy of Meta Platforms CEO Zuckerberg, personally calling potential recruits and promoting Microsoft's newly created AI department as a more flexible and startup-like workplace compared to Google's DeepMind. Sources say that Suleyman, who is in charge of Microsoft's AI division, is offering more generous salaries and providing opportunities to help Microsoft's Copilot chatbot become a stronger competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT. These sources report that Microsoft has poached at least 24 executives and other employees from Google in the past few months, with most of them having previously worked at DeepMind. This includes former distinguished engineer at Google DeepMind Adam Sadovsky, as well as former VP of Engineering at Google Amar Subramanya.
