The Mexican President said it was "unnecessary" to reach a bilateral trade agreement with Canada.
Mexican President Xinbaum stated in a press conference on August 6th local time that there is no need to reach a trade agreement between Mexico and Canada. Xinbaum said, "We have already reached a trade agreement with the United States, Canada, and Mexico... it is not necessary." She indicated that the two countries are discussing expanding direct trade, but that doesn't mean they need to reach a separate trade agreement with Canada. Xinbaum also confirmed that Canadian Prime Minister Carney will soon travel to Mexico for direct talks, but the visit date has not been determined yet. Canadian Finance Minister Shang Pengfei and Foreign Minister Anand are currently in Mexico City negotiating with Mexican officials to strengthen the trade relationship between the two countries. It is reported that the discussions included cooperation in areas such as energy, automotive, and security.
